Cllr Steve Wrenn
Having lived and worked in the constituency all my life, I am well aware of the issues that directly affect the area and I am dedicated to working to solve these issues. I know that the communities within Finglas and Ballymun have been affected by problems such as anti social behaviour, addiction and unemployment. Working on a HSE Child Protection Social Work Team for the past 8 years, coupled with my experience working with the National Assessment and Remand Unit, I have gained an insight into the pressures that affect families and issues affecting our young people in the Dublin North West area.
I value the important role education plays in shaping our children’s future and feel strongly that more preventive strategies to prevent young people becoming criminalised or being forced to leave their homes are needed. Sports and youth clubs are vitally important to our young people’s development and, having played and volunteered for clubs in the Dublin North West area, I know how important it is to feel part of a team. As a young person I played for most of the sporting teams in the constituency and have fond memories of representing Erin’s Isle, WFTA, Tolka Rovers and Ballymun Kickhams and Willows Fc.
I have a HDip in Arts from NUI Maynooth specialising in Addiction Studies and Community Facilitation. I also have specialist qualifications in Smoking Cessation, Employment Law, Group Facilitation and Mediation and Conflict Resolution . I have always volunteered in my community and I introduced the non-profit organisation Smart Recovery into Ireland, hosting the first meeting in St Helena’s resource centre in Finglas last year and we have helped many people and their families deal with addictive behaviour. I am also a Peace Commissioner for the City of Dublin and surrounding counties as well as studying Law at Griffith College Dublin. My hobbies include fishing, running, food and travel and I am married to Maireaine Quigley who is a community social worker.
All The Very Best
Steve Wrenn
